I wasn’t sure I knew how to meditate. While trying to get my mind quiet, it’s easy to go from 0-50, instead. But, I learned it’s really all about getting still and listening to your breath sounds.
Meditation can be as simple, or detailed as we want it to be, right?
I was overthinking it.
During an especially stressful season, I knew I needed some way to keep a lid on my creeping anxiety. So, I got outside in nature, (my back yard), closed my eyes, listened to the windchimes singing in the breeze, and I only thought about my breath sounds. If my mind wandered back to a stressful thought, I reeled it in and back to my breath.
THAT’S IT! I can’t describe how incredibly calming it is to do this! I did feel better! I did feel in control of my emotions! Meditation works!
There are so many (free) audios on YouTube, if you prefer a guided meditation. Most are around 30 minutes.
Not only is meditation wonderful for calming anxiety, like I described here, but it’s very healing right after a workout! After your stretch, lie on your mat with soothing music. Feel how wonderful your muscles feel, after you challenged them. This is the time I love guided meditation.
Try it! Remember not to overthink it. Just listen to your breath.
XO, Wimberly
